Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how AutoCaption (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, stores, and protects information when you use our website, web app, mobile caption apps including CaptionLab: AI Subtitles, caption generation tools, subscriptions, or support channels.

1. Information we collect

We collect account information such as your email address, display name, authentication identifiers, and account settings when you create or sign in to an account. The mobile app may also create an anonymous account so you can try captioning before adding an email address.

When you use the caption editor, we process the videos, audio, captions, transcripts, translations, project names, export settings, and related metadata that you upload or create. Video and audio files may include personal or sensitive information if that content appears or is spoken in your media.

We collect subscription and entitlement information from payment providers such as Stripe, RevenueCat, Apple, and Google Play. We do not receive or store full card numbers or full payment account credentials. We also collect basic technical information such as device type, browser, app version, pages viewed, crash or error data, IP-derived region, and referrer information for security, diagnostics, analytics, and service improvement.

2. How we use information

We use your information to provide caption generation, transcription, translation, styling, project history, exports, subscription access, account syncing, support, security, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, analytics, and product improvement. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your uploaded videos, audio, transcripts, or captions for advertising.

3. Video, audio, and AI processing

Caption generation requires sending audio, video, transcript, and caption text to our service providers so they can process the request on our behalf. This may include hosting, storage, transcription, translation, AI model, and rendering providers such as Vercel, Supabase, OpenRouter, OpenAI-compatible transcription/model providers, and similar infrastructure vendors. These providers are used to deliver the captioning workflow and are not permitted by us to use your content for their own advertising.

4. Secure data handling

We use HTTPS/TLS to transmit data between your device, our app, our website, and our service providers. We store user data with managed providers that support access controls and encryption at rest. Access to production systems and stored user data is limited to authorized personnel and service providers who need it to operate, secure, support, or improve the service. We use least-privilege access where practical, monitor operational errors, and remove stored media when it is no longer needed for the captioning workflow or account history.

5. Data sharing

We share information with service providers that help us run the service, including hosting, database, storage, analytics, transcription, AI model processing, subscriptions, payments, app-store purchases, email delivery, and customer support. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, to prevent abuse or fraud, or as part of a business transfer. We do not sell personal data.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep account, subscription, and project information while your account is active or as needed to provide the service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and prevent abuse. Uploaded videos used for processing may be deleted automatically after they are no longer needed; our hosted web workflow includes a storage cleanup process for older generated media. You can delete captions or projects in the product where available, and you can request account and data deletion at any time by emailing us.

7. Your choices and rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by emailing hello@autocaption.app. You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any message we send. Depending on your location, you may have additional privacy rights under local law.

8. Legal bases for UK, EEA, and Swiss users

Where required, we rely on performance of a contract to provide captioning, exports, subscriptions, and account services; legitimate interests for security, diagnostics, analytics, abuse prevention, and product improvement; consent for optional marketing; and legal obligations where we must retain or disclose certain information.

9. Cookies and analytics

We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for authentication, product functionality, analytics, security, and remembering preferences. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but some features may not work without them.

10. Children's privacy

The service is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required in your country. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy here with a revised “Last updated” date.
